Help with statistics is available for eesearchers Working at Barts and The London NHS Trust (BLT)
Statistics is one of the more complex and forbidding aspects of undertaking research projects. However, getting the design of a study right and knowing how to make sense of the data you collect are key to good research.
A statistician, Sophie He is now available in the Joint R&D Office to provide statistical support and advice to researchers working here.
Researchers are encouraged to consult the statistician while their study is still at the planning stage, before the study design has been finalised and data collected.
Please note that Sophie only works 2½ days each week, so you will need to contact her well in advance to discuss both her potential input to your research project and timing. Consultations are by appointment only.
To arrange a consultation, researchers should complete a form (below), giving details of their project. Appointments will not normally be made until this form has been received. Please note that it normally takes at least 2 weeks to arrange a consultation.
The Trust R&D office has invested in a statistics package called SYSTAT. This package has all the features of SPSS (which is commonly used in many universities) but has some additional functions and is generally more user friendly.
The package has been installed on departmental PCs around the Trust. If you wish to have SYSTAT installed on your PC, please call the ICT helpdesk, 14-7860 with the following information:
Name and phone number of contact person.
WS Number of the PC.
Location of the PC (ward, room number, building and site).
Please note that as Barts and The London NHS Trust is the license holder, the package CANNOT be loaded onto QMUL, City or any non BLT networked computer.
