At Barts and the London NHS Trust it is necessary to submit an application to the Joint R&D Office before you submit to the ethics committee seeking approval.
This is because The East London and the City Research Ethics Committee requires a letter of provisional R&D approval from R&D and, if applicable, a letter of sponsorship approval to include with your application.
When you have received a favourable opinion from the ethics committee, you should forward a copy of the approval letter to us so we can provide you with final R&D approval. No aspect of the study may begin within the Trust or School before you have the final approval letter.
For every project you wish to submit to R&D, please send both electronic and signed hard copies of the following documents to the R&D Office:
Completed NRES ethics application form (Parts A, B and SSI with relevant signatures on the hard copy) or the IRAS R&D Form.
All supporting documents, such as patient information sheet, consent form, GP letter, questionnaire, peer review etc.
A completed and signed Data Protection form if you are using data from BLT patients or staff (download below).
If you wish the Trust or University to sponsor your study, a completed and signed Conditions of Sponsorship Agreement (download below).
If the study is a clinical trial, we also need a copy of the Clinical Trials Authorisation (CTA) from the MHRA. Read more>>
