Our services | Prostate assessment
The prostate is a fleshy organ which is wrapped around the neck of the bladder like a ring doughnut and is approximately the size of a walnut. In boys and young men the prostate is tiny but for reasons which we do not know, it gets larger later in life. The amount of enlargement varies between individuals as do the problems which it causes. For most men this is nothing to worry about.
At our prostate assessment clinic, patients have a urine flow test and a bladder ultrasound scan to see how well you can pass urine. We will ask you to fill out a questionnaire to explain your current symptoms. We may also take a blood test to check your kidney function and the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA).
If the level of PSA in the blood is abnormally high, it might indicate that you have something wrong with your prostate. A high level of PSA usually suggests that you need more tests to rule out prostate cancer.
