Research programmes:

Involved in setting up new clinics and maintaining a database for prostate cancer patients. Also helping to feeding into the clinical audit.

Professional history:

Karen qualified as a registered general nurse in 2001. She worked as a staff nurse and junior sister on a urology ward in Manchester and also spent some time as a research nurse in urology. She completed a diploma in nursing in 1998 and a BSc in Urology nursing in 2003. Karen has also presented on various urology topics at national and international conferences.

For the past year Karen has been working part time caring for patients with suspected or confirmed prostate cancer.

Special interests:

Prostate cancer - helping patients from diagnosis and throughout their treatment. Providing advice and explanations of all treatment processes. Liaising with other healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust. Currently setting up nurse led telephone follow-up for patients with stable prostate cancer and also nurse led raised PSA clinic.
