Research programmes:

Genetics of eczema and ichthyoses, keratodermas, pachyonychia congenita, how skin cancer invades, development of new treatments for skin diseases, varicella-zoster infection of skin.

Professional history:

Qualified in 1988 (University College, Galway, Ireland). General medical (MRCP, 1991), paediatric (Diploma in Child Health, 1991), and early Dermatology Registrar training (1992-1994) in Ireland (Dermatology at St James Hospital/Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin and Meath/Adelaide/National Children’s Hospitals). Dermatology Foundation and then Howard Hughes Medical Institute Physician Scientist Fellowships, Northwestern University, Chicago, USA 1994-1998. Specialist Registrar Royal Free Hospital, 1998-1999 and Barts and the London 2000- 2001. PhD, 2001. Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Dermatologist since 2001. FRCP (Ire.), 2005, FRCP, 2007. Treasurer, British Society for Investigative Dermatology (2006-1010), Member of Pachyonychia Congenita Consortium, Medical Advisory Board Ichthyosis Support Group, Co-Editor, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology (2003-2007).

Special interests:

Paediatric dermatology, keratoderma including pachyonychia congenita, ichthyosis, genetic skin diseases, blistering diseases, medical dermatology, systemic therapies, general dermatology.
