Dermatologists at Barts and the London Skin Centre are actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Dr Jane McGregor is a founder member and chairperson of the ‘Teaching for Undergraduates in Dermatology’ focus-group within the British Association for Dermatologists, and as such, we play a lead role in the development of teaching curricula in dermatology nationwide.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dermatology is organised by the Centre for Cutaneous Research (Drs Vicky Jolliffe and Dr Ginny Hubbard), in the Institute of Cell and Molecular Science (ICMS), Queen Mary, University of London and the Barts and The London Skin Centre. The programme is a one year, part-time course. There are two separate but linked programmes; one for UK-based General Practitioners (click here to view the UK progamme), and one for doctors outside the UK (click here to view the International progamme). Successful completion of either programme leads to award of a Diploma in Clinical Dermatology from the University of London.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Surgery course leads to a Postgraduate Degree from the University of London: PGDipAesSurg. It is a two-year, part-time, web-based distance-learning programme. The course is designed specifically to provide a core curriculum for established surgeons or surgical trainees, who wish to practice in the field of aesthetic surgery following completion of specialist training. The course starts in October and runs for two academic years.
The SpR training programme in Dermatology at Barts and The London and associated hospitals is one of the most popular SpR training programmes in London (currently 10 rotating SpRs). The working environment (support from senior colleagues) always receives excellent ratings. We have an excellent dermatopathology teaching programme. The diversity of the local and tertiary referral population means that the SpRs obtain excellent experience.
