Research into practice | Cancer Prevention Trials Unit
The Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) is uniting to prevent cancer by facilitating high quality clinical trial research and producing evidence based interventions to prevent a wide range of cancers. Its aim is to provide the necessary support to enable scientifically excellent studies, which are part of the NIHR portfolio, to be successfully completed.
The CPTU is the only trials unit in the UK with particular expertise in cancer prevention and screening and is a fully accredited UKCRC Trials Unit.
The CPTU is based within the Cancer Research UK funded Centre for Epidemiology, Mathematics and Statistics. The Centre director is Professor Jack Cuzick. Professor Peter Sasieni is deputy director of the Centre and Director of the Trials Unit.
The CPTU provides the scientific, technical and computing expertise needed to support clinical trial research from conception through to completion, including an open access consultancy service covering all aspects of trial design, management and analysis. It offers investigators assistance to build on their ideas or pilot studies and provide support and advice from an expert multi-disciplinary team on the best clinical trial methodology.
