The Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) provides a range of services to help Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London researchers. We can provide advice on securing funding, project costing, ensuring that the correct governance processes are followed and that the research is ethical, through to ongoing financial account management and study closure. This is set out below. We have also produced a downloadable guide: The JRMO: Our Services (March 2012)
An organogram of the JRMO can be downloaded here.
The JRMO provides the following services to researchers of both Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London:
The Joint Research Management Office has an excellent finance team, experienced in costing and pricing both commercial and non-commercial research. The team will also set up and manage accounts for any externally funded projects.
One of the main complaints of researchers is the difficulty of negotiating the current system for obtaining ethical approval. The Joint Research Management Office has a dedicated member of staff able to screen applications and ensure that areas likely to cause problems are addressed before submission. The Research Ethics Administrator is also a single point of contact for any queries on indemnity and identifying a sponsor.
The Trust and College are leading edge in terms of the support available to help researchers through the current regulatory system. A dedicated team of staff will advise you on what the requirements are and how to put systems in place to ensure you are compliant with Research Governance, Good Clinical Practice and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice standards.
The librarians employed by Queen Mary University of London offer an excellent support service for staff wishing to carry out research. All QMUL staff are eligible for help in designing a search strategy and the use of search engines. Trust staff should complete a simple registration form on arrival to enable them to access the same services.
Researchers are able to access the skills and expertise of two units to help identify, protect and exploit any IP arising from research. Staff with NHS contracts have support from the NHS Innovations London, QMUL staff can utilise their Innovation and Enterprise Unit.
