Antenatal midwife-led clinic

Women assessed as having low-risk pregnancies are seen in our clinics by midwives.

Antenatal high-risk clinic

This dedicated antenatal clinic provides advice and support for all women with high-risk pregnancies. The multi-disciplinary clinic is run by obstetric consultant specialists, with anaesthetists, cardiologists, haematologists, midwives, nephrologists, rheumatologists and other specialists as required. Miss Shohreh Beski, Mr Rehan Khan (obstetricians) and Dr Mira Razzaque (anaesthetist) are the experts who regularly attend.

Pre-pregnancy counselling clinic for women with heart problems

This clinic is run jointly by a consultant cardiologist and consultant obstetrician for women with heart conditions which might affect their pregnancies.

Diabetes/endocrine clinic

We provide antenatal diabetes and pre-conception counselling clinics for women with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The clinics are led by Dr David Peterson, Consultant Physician and Diabetologist, and Mrs Anita Sanghi, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. There is a dedicated diabetes specialist nurse, a specialist midwife and a dietitian as part of the joint care team for diabetes.

The Seacole Clinic (substance misuse antenatal clinic)

This joint clinic is for those who have substance dependency in pregnancy. The clinic brings together expertise and staff from a range of agencies, including midwives, health visitors and social workers. The clinic also provides follow-up care for families for up to six months after the birth of the baby.

There are also specialist midwifery services for women who are HIV positive.

Multiple pregnancy clinic

We have a dedicated clinic for women who have the special needs of a multiple pregnancy. Mr Ling Wee is the consultant in charge of this clinic which provides continuing medical assessment advice and support.

VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section) clinic

VBAC is the term used when a woman who has had a caesarean attempts to give birth to her next baby vaginally.

If you had a caesarean section for your last baby, you may choose to have a repeat caesarean with your next baby or you can opt to have a labour with a view to having a vaginal delivery. Our VBAC clinic is run by consultant midwives who give advice and support which will enable you to make an informed choice as to which option is likely to be the best for you. VBAC needs careful supervision but the risk of uterine scar separation (when the scar on your uterus gives way), which has worried doctors in the past, is actually very low and is best managed in a supervised environment.
