Ultrasound scans

Ultrasound scans

Ultrasound scans can be some of the most exciting and enduring memories of your pregnancy. We offer pictures at a cost of £4. We offer two ‘routine’ scans, a dating scan and an anomaly scan, to all women.  Depending on how your pregnancy progresses we may advise further scans.  

To ensure that your expected date of delivery is accurate we recommended that you have a dating scan between 11 and 14 weeks to:

• Date the pregnancy.
• Do an initial check on the health of your baby
• (If desired) assess the likelihood of the baby having Down’s syndrome  
• Diagnose twin pregnancies (or more).

The second scan (the anomaly scan) is usually performed between 19 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. This scan is designed to:

• Check that your baby is growing and developing normally.
• Check on the health of your baby – heart rate, blood flow, movement, development, growth
• Look for problems with the structure of your baby’s organs
