Viral hepatitis
There many viruses which can affect the liver and cause inflammation. Some viruses such as Hepatitis B and C viruses can cause long-term damage to liver and need to be monitored closely. This form of damage can lead to scarring called cirrhosis. Also the viruses can predispose the liver to develop tumours. Recently, newer drugs have been made availlable to counteract the viruses and limit the damage to the liver.

Cirrhosis
This is inflammation and scarring of liver. It usually occurs as a result of damage to liver by either viruses such as Hepatitis B and C as well as long-term alcohol abuse. Cirrhosis can lead to liver failure, development of liver tumours and other organ damage. Cirrhosis is managed expertly by our team of hepatologists.

The innovative treatments which are developed and used at the centre to treat these diseases are internationally renowned and are used by other HPB units around the world.
