Research

Our department is involved in a number of research areas. We are recruiting patients into clinical trials of 'novel long acting factor VIII' and 'IX factor concentrates' with a new 'recombinant von Willebrand factor trial' to start soon. We have funding for science projects to better understand some of the complications of treating haemophilia, in particular, to examine the risks of rejection antibodies arising in some haemophilia patients that neutralise the effect of factor concentrate treatment.

We contribute to a number of other international haemophilia studies and have recently initiated a World Federation of Haemophilia twinning programme with two centres in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We also contribute to The Haemophilia Society's evolving research program with a representative on their Research steering group.
