Our long tradition of clinical excellence continues today with some of the best clinical results in the UK.
The services at the Trust’s three hospitals – Barts in the City, The Royal London in Whitechapel and The London Chest in Bethnal Green produce some of the best clinical outcomes in the UK - evidenced by one of the best survival rate records in the NHS.
Barts and The London is committed to delivering high-quality clinical care using systems and procedures that are safe and effective, both for staff and patients. We achieve this through our integrated healthcare governance framework, which supports all clinical activity in our hospitals. In particular, our quality and safety committee reviews and monitors the quality and safety of the care offered in our hospitals and ensures compliance with national quality and safety standards for the NHS.
If you require a new referral to us, your GP will write to our department and you will be seen within four to six weeks. An appointment will be sent to you by the Central Appointments department.
Patients registered with Barts and The London Haemophilia Centre can phone for advise at any time. Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm) please call 020 7377 7455. Out of hours, please call 020 7377 7000 and ask to be put through to the Haemophilia Registrar on call.
Our centre is one of the largest comprehensive care centres in the country, we have over 1000 patients with inherited bleeding disorders registered at our centre - of whom more than 100 are adults or children with severe bleeding disorders.
We take infection control seriously. MRSA infection rates at Barts and The London hospitals compare well with most other specialist hospitals in London and we are implementing several measures to improve this further.
In 2009, the haemophilia centre took part in the tri-annual audit conducted by the United Kingdom Haemophilia Centre Doctors' Organisation (UKHCDO). The survey included a patients representative, comments included:
"The centre has continued to provide a high quality service"
"Enthusiasm and dedication was evident in all members of the haemophilia team and there was obvious support for haemophilia care from all specialities."
In late 2007, the centre complied a patient satisfaction survey. Nearly 400 surveys were sent out although only 25% were returned.
Overall the results were very positive. Action plans were designed for them. Notably, a revision of the pain relief pathway, development of a more streamlined response to emergency patient transportation with the London Ambulance Service and introduction of new specialised clinics such as the women's health clinic.
General comments from the survey –
“I have a very mild condition so my contact with the centre is minimal – but to date all the experiences I have with the centre have been positive”
“I have to say, you cannot make any more improvements. I have been under the London Hospital for over 27 years. My treatment has been first class”
“I think your department is the best and the most effective I have had contact with at the Royal London and Barts “
