Round the clock care
There is 24-hour emergency on-call cover provided by the centre as part of the hospital's Accident and Emergency Service.
Barts and the London Eye Service is the only centre in east London that provides 24 hours emergency eye care services.
Our service can assess patients with a sudden onset of eye pain, eye problems or rapid loss of vision to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.
The emergency service also provides assessment to patients who have been in serious accidents that have caused injury to the eye, and assessment of patients with eye problems that exist with other medical conditions.

Located on the ground floor, the Emergency Department for children and adults, is accessed from Whitechapel Road along East Mount Street. Ambulance access is on Milward Street.
The department is three times bigger than the Accident and Emergency Department in the old hospital, with a full range of services dedicated to the care of emergency and trauma patients. This includes lifts linking it directly to the helipad for London’s Air Ambulance.
The department is equipped with a dedicated imaging facility which includes three x-ray rooms, an ultrasound suite and two state-of-the-art CT scanners. This is in addition to the main diagnostic imaging departments on the first and second floor.
