Endocrine (hormone) disorders may be difficult to diagnose and some conditions are rare. To describe endocrinology in simple terms, various glands release a variety of hormones which play important roles in how the body functions. If any of these glands ever over produce or under produce hormones, or if they grow and develop tumours within them, this can lead to a variety of health problems.
We treat the following conditions:
We treat a range of endocrine conditions that affect children, some of which are listed above and others are provided below. Our young patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of experts providing specialist care in the patient’s early years and onwards ensuring they continue to receive the right care into their adulthood.
For children who are growing into young adults we provide a transition clinic which ensures that our patients are cared for in those crucial years between childhood and adulthood. Our patients who need long-term endocrinology follow-up are referred to this service.
Investigative tests
Given the rarity of endocrine disorders, they can also be difficult to identify which is why our patients undergo a series of tests, which allow specialists to identify the exact endocrine disorder. To find out more about some of the tests available to our patients, please click here.
Staying with us during your tests
It is not unusual for the tests to take anything up to five days to complete, so if you do not live near the hospital and cannot come in on daily basis, you are welcome to stay with us at Gloucester House Hostel.
