Barts and The London Dental Hospital | Emergency dental services
Barts and The London Dental Hospital provides walk-in services for adults and children for emergency cases.
The Dental Emergency Clinic at the Barts and The London hospital aims primarily to provide relief from dental pain and infection. The clinic can see and treat a limited number of emergency patients each day on a walk-in basis. There is no charge for treatment provided. However, we cannot guarantee that everyone turning up at the clinic will be accepted for treatment. Patients with their own dentist must seek care from their own dentist in the first instance.
The normal opening hours are Monday to Friday (except bank holidays - see details above) 8.30am to 4pm.
The doors to the Dental Hospital open at 8am, the service for adults is based on the 1st floor and for children on the 3rd floor of the Dental Hospital (New Road entrance)
Patients seeking care are assessed and those with severe dental infections (facial swellings threatening airway) or extensive dental trauma are given priority. We do not offer booked appointments, callers making contact by telephone will be told if the list is open or full for the day. Patients not accepted for treatment are given information on how to access NHS dental surgeries.
The daytime Emergency Dental Clinic is part of the Dental Teaching Hospital so patients are seen by undergraduate students under the supervision of qualified staff. Please note that the capacity of the clinic is reduced during university holidays (Aug - Sept)
