About us
Welcome to Barts and The London Cystic Fibrosis Centre for adults. We are a large specialist service providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community care for older teenagers and adults with cystic fibrosis.
Our specialised multidisciplinary cystic fibrosis team is dedicated to keeping you well, while recognising and treating any complications that may develop in your adult years.
Our service for adults is based at The London Chest Hospital, Bethnal Green. This is a regional service that covers north east London, and Essex, although some patients come from further afield.

We recognise that adults with cystic fibrosis can choose where to have their care. Our specialised service can provide care that is sensitive to the changing needs of adults with cystic fibrosis and is here to help and guide you throughout your life, and to provide the best care to suit your individual needs.
A leading specialist service
Our team consists of consultants trained in the care of cystic fibrosis patients, specialist nurses, specialist dietitian, specialist physiotherapists, a clinical psychologist, and social worker. As a teaching hospital, our respiratory doctors in training assist in the management of cystic fibrosis inpatients. We provide an inpatient cystic fibrosis unit (the Jack Turner Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit, situated within the respiratory ward at The London Chest Hospital), outpatient clinics, community care, and a home IV antibiotic service.
Using research to develop cutting-edge treatments
Our cystic fibrosis team has a strong commitment to understanding more about cystic fibrosis, analysing the benefits of current treatments, and developing new treatments that have a direct benefit to our patients.
As a teaching and specialist hospital we conduct a variety of medical research to ensure that we provide the most advanced and successful treatments for our patients. We work closely with the Lung Research Centre and with Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as having research links with other Adult Cystic Fibrosis services across London, and with other Adult Cystic Fibrosis services across the UK through the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Seamless service
We aim to ensure that all patients reach their optimum level of health, while living with cystic fibrosis. Critical to the quality of our service is teamwork; our patients experience a multidisciplinary and seamless approach – receiving medical treatment, high quality nursing care and counselling support both in hospital and in the community.
