Biography:

Manoj Ramachandran is a Consultant Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgeon at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals (Barts and The London NHS Trust). He qualified from King’s College School of Medicine, University of London in 1996 with a double honours degree and proxime accessit to the University of London Gold Medal. After basic surgical training on the Oxford and Hammersmith rotations, Mr Ramachandran became Specialist Registrar in Orthopaedics and Trauma on the North East Thames/Stanmore rotation, including training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London. Mr Ramachandran undertook three fellowship positions in paediatric and young adult orthopaedics in Sydney, Australia, the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, California and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

Mr Ramachandran has a strong academic (clinical and basic science) interest, having authored 9 educational text books, published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented at over 50 national and international meetings.  He is currently an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the William Harvey Institute, Charterhouse Square, part of Queen Mary’s, University of London.

He has extensive experience with teaching at all levels from medical students to established Consultants, and runs several clinical and basic science courses as part of the orthopaedic educational portfolio at Barts and The London. He is the current Associate Editor of the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine and sits on committees at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Areas of work:

Mr Ramachandran’s chief interests are in paediatric and young adult orthopaedics, the young adult hip and knee, sports injuries and deformity correction. He has experience in minimally invasive techniques, such as mini-open hip impingement and labral surgery and cartilage and meniscal repair techniques of the knee, and limb reconstruction, along with an interest in developing emerging and innovative techniques and technologies.
