Egg donation offers new hope for many women who can't have children.
For some women infertility is due to damage caused by cancer, surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy but for many there is simply no explanation for the onset of early menopause.
Egg donation can also help those at risk of passing on genetic disorders to their offspring or those who fail to respond to IVF.
To become an egg donor you should be 35 or less and free of serious medical or disability and without a family history of any inherited disorders.
Donors cam be introduced by the recipient or may be unknown to the recipient.
You will be offered counselling prior to entering into the donation programme and all medical expenses will be covered by the hospital.
Until recently, women who donated eggs could remain anonymous. However, the law changed in April 2005 to remove anonymity from subsequent donors and allow donor-received children to access the identity of the donor when they reach the age of 18.
