Bringing Excellence to Life

For patients

Barts and The London Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Centre

For patients

Visiting us

If you have been referred to Barts and The London Centre for Oral and Maxillofacial surgery by your GP, dentist or hospital doctor for an appointment, our clinics run every day. You will receive an appointment letter giving you the date and time of the appointment and explaining where to go.

At your appointment you will meet one of our surgeons and may undertake a range of tests. Once your treatment plan has been determined and if surgery is planned, this will be discussed with you in detail and there will be opportunities for you to ask questions.

After your surgery you will be asked to return to the hospital for follow-up appointments. You may also be referred to see one of our speech and language therapists for ongoing support.

Staying with us

If you are having elective (non emergency) maxillofacial treatment and surgery, you may need to stay in hospital on one of our wards; either Bedford Fenwick or Henry Butlin ward at Barts Hospital.

Some procedures can be carried out as day surgery, which means that you can go home on the day of your surgery rather than having unnecessary stays in hospital. Our day surgery services take place at The Royal London (for children) and at Barts (for adults).

Visitors welcome

We positively encourage our patients to invite friends and relatives to visit them in hospital. Visiting hours vary, but all wards are open to visitors between 4pm-8pm.

Overnight accommodation is available for the relatives of patients being admitted to hospital or for patients who attend the hospital for regular treatment. We can also provide facilities for patients who have to travel a long way to attend hospital for complex investigations or treatment, but who do not need to be readmitted to a ward. If you are attending hospital, please ask a member of staff for details.
