Biography:

Undergraduate medical training at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. Moved to the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London in 1993 after completing specialist training in neurology. Awarded a PhD from the University of London in 1998. Took up the post of Chair of Neurology at the Institute of Cell and Molecular Science, Queen Mary University London and the Department of Neurology at Barts and The London NHS Trust in November 2006.

Areas of work:

Multiple sclerosis, other neuroinflammatory diseases.

Research programmes:

Neuroprotective and neuroestorative therapies in multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis related biomarker discovery. Environmental causes or triggers of multiple sclerosis. Optimising multiple sclerosis disease modifying therapies. Antibody mediated autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system.

Special interests:

Neuro-immunology; multiple sclerosis and other inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system.
