Referral guidelines

For routine and non-urgent outpatient referrals, please use the choose and book system or send your referral letters to:

OR to individual consultants, if super-specialist expertise is essential. 

Routine appointments are booked through a 'partial booking system' in which patients are asked to confirm that they still want an appointment by contacting the Central Appointments Department on 020 7791 9670 six weeks before they are likely to be seen. They can then arrange a suitable date.

For advice and guidance about referring your patient for a hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery appointment please email  btl-tr.Advice-gastroenterology-Barts@nhs.net  Your email will be responded to within 24hours.

For out of hours and emergency enquiries call 020 7377 7000 and ask to bleep the senior registrar.

Endoscopy Unit
Referrals are made through the booked admissions proccess so that patients can be offerred a choice of dates for their investigations. Tel 020 7377 7218 or fax 020 7377 7441.

Please use the gastroscopy request form when referring a patient for an open access endoscopy.

Nurse-led functional bowel or faetal incontinence clinics
Please send direct referrals to Marion Allison at The Royal London hospital or call 020 7377 7099.

Liver clinic
Referral letters should be addressed to The Liver Clinic at the Royal London Hospital or to Richard Marley, The Wingate Institute, 26 Ashfield Street E1 2AJ.

Nutrition clinic
Referral letters should be addressed to The Nutrition Clinic at the Royal London Hospital Tel 020 7377 000 ext 3436 RLH.

Newly diagnosed hepatitus B or C patients can contact Opal Greyson, Clinical Nurse Specialist on 020 7377 7000 ext 3678 or email opal.greyson@bartsandthelondon.nhs.uk, for advice pending their referral to the doctor clinic.

Surgery
Suspected cancer – 2 week wait: Letter to be faxed to Central Appointments 020 7791 9660.

Direct referral letter sent/faxed to named consultant as above.

Clinical referral advice

Outside office working hours, referrals for previous patients or for specific and urgent advice, contact our on-call surgical registrar, who can be contacted via switchboard on 020 7377 7000 at RLH.
