Barts Cancer Centre | For patients | Overnight accommodation
A 15-bedded accommodation facility is available at Gloucester House, one of the buildings at Barts Hospital, to provide free overnight accommodation for patients who require ongoing daycare treatment but live too far away from the hospital to be able to make the journey to and from their homes each day.
The accommodation, which is housed in newly-refurbished facilities, has 10 bedrooms dedicated for use by cancer patients and a further five bedrooms available for use by other hospital services.
Patients who use the accommodation would previously have been admitted at the hospital overnight, although they would not require overnight medical care. This helps us to free up beds within the hospital for those most in need, whilst providing comfortable accommodation for those who receive day care at the hospital. If you are staying here, you are encouraged to bring a relative or carer with you and there is space for a fold-away bed within the rooms.
Patients staying in Gloucester House are given contact details for staff on the wards so that if they become unwell at anytime they will have immediate access to advice and if necessary, can be admitted to a hospital bed.
The accommodation is all in single rooms equipped with wash-hand basins, a television and tea/coffee making facilities. There are separate bathrooms for male and female patients, and a shared kitchen for the preparation of meals, with an on-site housekeeper service.
