Biography:

Silvia Montoto joined the Institute of Cancer in February 2004 as Senior Lecturer in Medical Oncology. After her training in Haematology at the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, Spain, she was a clinical research fellow at the Universitat de Barcelona where she completed her MD on prognostic factors in follicular lymphoma, including molecular aspects of this disease.

Research programmes:

Her research is focused in the study of the natural history and prognostic factors in patients with follicular lymphoma, with a specific interest in the process of histological transformation to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and the intersection between follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, emphasising the translational aspect of the research. In this regard, Silvia Montoto is involved in a number of phase I-II clinical trials aiming at translating the laboratory research into clinical practice. She has also developed an interest in the study of lymphoid malignancies in patients with HIV infection, taking advantage of the referral pattern within the Cancer Network, which has made St Bartholomew’s hospital the reference centre for North-East London for such population.
