Biography:

Dr Mariarita Calaminic has held the post of Consultant in Histopathology and Cytopathology at Barts and The London since June 1999.

Mariarita received her undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Reggio in Italy and CCST in Histopathology, at the University of Messina in Italy and then her PhD in Pathology (Experimental Neuropathology), King's College, University of London. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.  She has worked as a Lecturer/Honorary Specialist Registrar in Histopathology for the Department of Histopathology and Morbid Anatomy, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, at King’s College, University of London as a EEC PhD Fellowship and at University of Messina, Italy as a Specialist Registrar in Histopathology

Research programmes:

Collaborative research within the Medical Oncology Unit funded by CRUK on the role of the microenvironment in non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas.

Clinical supervisor for a PhD project

Tissue micro array (TMA) analysis of follicular lymphomas and diffuse large B-cell lymphomas.

New guidelines for the management and treatment of patients with solitary thyroid nodules across the trust in collaboration with other consultants.

Teaching

Responsible for organising, examining and delivering the general pathology curriculum and H&N-ENT pathology for the Human Health Disease course.

Tutorials in Lymphoreticular pathology for medical students.

Supervising SSM students.
