Stages in the management of cancer

Before determining the most appropriate treatment plan for individual patients, at Barts Cancer Centre we use a three stage approach in the management of cancer. This includes:

Step 1 – diagnosis

We have access to the latest in state-of-the-art diagnostic technology for the most accurate diagnosis of cancer. This includes PET/CT, MRI, CT, x-ray and ultrasound.

Step 2 - staging

Using a range of tests and scans, our specialists assess the location of the cancer, whether it has spread and how far it has progressed.  For more details about how cancer stages are described, please click here.

Step 3 - treatment

At Barts Cancer Centre, we are committed to providing the very best treatments and technologies to care for you. In addition to using conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we are constantly reviewing and researching new treatments that are able to target cancer cells whilst minimising damage to surrounding healthy cells and tissues.
