What is radiotherapy?

Radiotherapy is the use of high energy x-rays to destroy tumour cells.  The radiotherapy treatment is delivered from a large machine, usually a linear accelerator. This is a painless and non-invasive procedure and you normally lie on a couch near the machine for your treatment – it will not touch you.

Treatments occur daily, the actual radiotherapy treatment time only takes a few short minutes.  However, please allow approximately 30 minutes as you will need to check in, change into a gown if necessary and the radiographers will need to position you very carefully for the treatment.
