Major incident statement from Barts and The London NHS Trust

THIS IS THE LAST STATEMENT WE WILL ISSUE UNTIL
Clinicians at The Royal London have been treating casualties since early this morning. Doctors and paramedics of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service were also involved from the outset, treating casualties at scene.
Paul White, chief executive of Barts and The London NHS Trust, said: “I am hugely proud of the way staff at theTrust have responded to this crisis.
“We have a well-rehearsed plan which was put in place as soon as the major incident was declared. We are well-equipped to deal with incidents such as this and have one of the leading accident and emergency departments in the country with particular expertise in treating trauma patients. Patients are receiving the highest standard of care.”

We have admitted 27 patients of whom seven are in ICU and 19 are on wards. One person has unfortunately died.
Over the course of the day we treated 208 people connected with this incident.
