Considerate construction

Work to construct the new hospitals is taking place in phases at both Barts and The Royal London to allow services and activities to continue 24 hours a day throughout the redevelopment programme, just as they do now.
Practical measures, including special screens and modern construction techniques are in place to minimise the impact of building work on clinical care and to ensure patient, staff and visitor safety. We have also developed a system to ensure that any serious concerns can be escalated and resolved swiftly.
Although our priority is to ensure patient and visitor safety while the vital redevelopment work takes place, some disruption and noise is inevitable. We are sorry about this - please bear with us.
Access to our hospitals
A number of roads and entrances have been closed both to pedestrians and traffic at both Barts and The Royal London. This is to ensure public safety and to contain construction vehicles in a holding area within the construction site boundary, minimising any impact on the local neighbourhood or other parts of the hospital. Closed streets will be re-opened on a permanent basis once construction of the new hospital buildings is complete.
The Royal London
Please use public transport if at all possible. If you need to drop someone off, please use the Stepney Way main drop-off point for patients arriving by taxi and car. Access to the outpatients department on Stepney Way is not affected by the road closures.

Barts
Please use public transport if at all possible. Patients can be dropped off in the square - please note that this is a drop-off facility only and that you cannot park in the square. People arriving on foot are advised to use the main entrance on Giltspur Street. There is no pedestrian or general vehicle access to the hospital from King Edward Street.
