Barts and The London Centre for Neurosciences
Neurosciences ward at The Royal London Hospital
Our patients requiring inpatient care stay on our neurosciences ward (AW4) in Alex Wing at The Royal London Hospital - with spectacular views across the City of London.
Our self-contained patient areas (single rooms and four-bedded bays) have single-sex shower rooms and toilet facilities.
We have a dedicated 10-bed facility for patients who require continuous monitoring and observation and all our beds are equipped with modern nurse call systems in case of an emergency.
We have four beds available for patients who require neuro-investigations, who tend to stay for short periods on the ward.
If patients require critical care - particularly after surgery - they may be cared for by our specialists in the Intensive Treatment Unit or in the Surgical High Dependency Unit.
During their stay in hospital, patients receive a multi-disciplinary approach to their care to address any potential neurological problems which may affect their day-to-day life, during and after their hospital care.
These may include respiratory, swallowing and nutritional complications in the early phase of their treatment. Our specialists in a range of therapies can help to treat any physical, cognitive and communication problems and provide ongoing assessments and treatment whilst patients wait for transfers to local services, rehabilitation units or discharge home.
There is a dedicated rehabilitation gym for our patients who require specialist assistance with our dedicated physiotherapists.
