Bringing Excellence to Life

Our services

At Barts and The London Centre for Neurosciences, we offer services dedicated to treating patients - including adults and children - with neurological conditions affecting their brain, spinal cord and/or nerves.

Our highly trained specialist teams understand that the care of each patient needs to be tailored to the whole person, taking into account of their psychological needs, alongside their medical treatment.

Our experts are continually researching new treatments and the use of new technologies, ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care.

We work in the following specialist areas (please click on the links on the left for more details):

Neurosurgery

This is the surgical or operative treatment of diseases of the brain and spinal cord. We undertake the following treatments:

  • Complex spinal surgery
  • Gamma knife radiosurgery - for non invasive treatment of many types of brain tumour, blood vessel disorders of the brain, epilepsy and facial pain
  • Functional neurosurgery
  • Base of skull surgery
  • Spinal surgery
  • Treatment of pain syndromes, bladder dysfunction and movement disorders (including the use of neurostimulation)
  • Trauma – for patients requiring emergency treatment, usually as a result of multiple injuries

Neurology

This is the study and the treatment of the structure, functioning and diseases of the nervous system; including the brain, spinal cord, and all the peripheral nerves. We specialise in caring for patients with:

  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Neuro-inflammation
  • Neuro-infection and neuro-virology
  • Conditions which require neuro-rehabilitation
  • Peripheral nerve conditions

We use a range of techniques to diagnose neurological conditions, including videotelemetry.

Clinical Neurophysiology

This is the study and treatment of the complex chemical and physical changes that are associated with the activity of the nervous system.

Using a range of techniques including electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials (EP), electromyography (EMG) and videotelemetry, we are able to closely monitor and record neurological patterns in our patients in order to successfully diagnose and manage conditions, and determine the most appropriate and effective treatment plans.

Neuroradiology

This involves the use of radiation, including scans and x-rays, in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases.

Neuro therapy

Recognising that neurological conditions and medical treatments can have a huge impact on a patient’s day-to-day activity and function, a large part of our care is to offer our patients rehabilitation, through a range of therapies. We therefore provide a range of therapy services for our neuro patients.
