What's happening now
More than 6,000 members already signed up
More than 6,000 patients, carers and members of our local communities have already signed up as members of our proposed new foundation trust.
Once we become a foundation trust, Barts and The London will be accountable to our members via elected representatives, who will be patients or their carers, members of the local community and hospital staff.
You too can demonstrate your support and be part of your world-renowned local hospitals by joining us now. Click here to find out more about the benefits of membership and to complete an online application form.
Current position
The proposed merger of Barts and The London, Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trusts is continuing to progress, with the aim of forming a new organisation from 1 April 2012.
If the merger receives formal approval and the three organisations become part of a single organisation next year, the new organisation will proceed as a single entity to apply for foundation trust status. Based on the current timetable, we anticipate that the new organisation would submit a foundation trust application by December 2013.

In the meantime, we will continue, as planned, to invite patients, carers and local residents to become members, enabling them to become more involved in our service development at the earliest possible opportunity; and we will continue to run our successful Medicine for Members events – click here for details.
