How to contact us

For GPs and other clinicians considering referring patients to Barts and The London NHS Trust, but who require advice before doing so, there are a range of contact options available - both urgent and non-urgent.

 1. Urgent clinical advice – GP hotline: 020 3594 0440

For emergency admissions or advice, please contact our on-call medical and surgical doctors through the Barts and The London GP hotline on 020 3594 0440. This number is for emergency admissions and emergency advice only.  You will be transferred to the appropriate bleep or extension number.  Clinicians from other hospitals wishing to make emergency referrals should also use the GP hotline.

GPs can also contact an A&E consultant, 24 hours a day, on Bleep 1115 (via the GP hotline) and a medical consultant in the Medical Assessment Unit, Monday-Friday, 9am-8pm, on Bleep 1568 for urgent medical advice.

GPs who need to speak to a specific consultant urgently about a patient can contact them via their secretaries or on their mobile phone numbers during working hours. To do this, please call the GP hotline on 020 3594 0440.  For specific patients, you may be asked to leave your mobile number and our team will call you back.

 6. Appointment Issues Resolution Service (outpatient appointments and admissions) – tel 020 7377 7074 or 0345 602 9906

For GPs having any difficulties accessing our services, please contact the Appointment Issues Resolution Service (AIRS) on 020 7377 7074 or 0345 602 9906. AIRS is a dedicated helpline offering patients and GPs fast and effective resolution of all booking and scheduling issues.  The AIRS team strengthens, supports and complements existing Trust resources by providing a dedicated channel that patients or GPs can contact. It then liaises with the relevant teams and individuals in the Trust to resolve the issue. The Trust has committed to responding to the patient and/or GP within 24 hours and making our best endeavours to resolve the issue within five working days. AIRS communicates with both the patient and the GP surgery to ensure that all interested parties are regularly updated with developments and resolutions.

 7. Pathology results

GP practices in Tower Hamlets can now access pathology results requested by Trust doctors through EMIS Cyberlab. There is also a Pathology results hotline for GPs: 020 3246 0346.

 8. Feedback from GPs

If you are a GP and have comments about our services, please contact Dr Shera Chok, Director of Primary Care, at shera.chok@bartsandthelondon.nhs.uk

 9. Bi-lingual Health Advocacy Service / interpreting

If your patient speaks little or no English and needs an interpreter when they speak to a doctor or other member of staff, please state this in your referral letter, along with the language required.  An interpreter will then be booked for them.

The Trust has its own bi-lingual Health Advocacy Service, which provides information, support, interpretation and advice to patients who speak little or no English. The service aims to ensure that all patients and their families can access the full range of services provided by the Trust and that they receive the highest quality of care. Contact the Health Advocacy Co-ordinator on 020 7377 7280 if you have any queries.

 10. Non emergency patient transport

All patients who request non-emergency patient transport to and/or from our hospitals will need to be assessed as to their eligibility for the service.  The assessment takes place over the telephone and is done by staff in the Barts and The London Travel Shop, our centralised assessment and booking facility, run by trained transport assessment officers.

If a patient needs help calling the Travel Shop, GPs (and hospital clinicians) can make this call on their behalf, but the patient must be present in order to answer the assessment questions.
