Bringing Excellence to Life

Visual field assessment

Assessment of the visual field determines how much peripheral vision a patient has, and how sensitive that peripheral vision is.

Visual field assessment is important for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and neurological associated eye disorders. It's also used to assess your eligibility to drive.

By repeating the test on regular occasions, your doctors can detect any change in your condition and, if necessary can change your treatment to ensure no further loss of peripheral vision occurs.

For the visual field assessment you will be placed at a machine that looks very similar to a large white bowl. Once the test has started you will see a series of white lights that vary in size and brightness and you'll be asked to click a buzzer every time you see a light.

Each eye is separately tested and can take up to 30 minutes. A team member will be in the room whilst you are tested.

There are different methods for testing the visual field. A member of our team will determine which method is the most suitable for assessing you and/or your condition.
