Barts and The London Eye Service
The Barts and the London Eye Service has four types of lasers that are used to treat various eye problems – the argon laser, the yag laser, the diode laser and the cyclodiode laser.
We have laser facilities in both the outpatients clinic at The Royal London Hospital and on the Radcliffe Eye Theatre Ward at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
The laser is a beam of high intensity light that can be focused with precision on specific structures inside the eye.
The type of laser used will depend on the condition for which you are being treated, and your doctor will advise which form of laser treatment is necessary and where you'll be treated.
Your doctor will discuss any possible side-effects from the laser before any treatment is started.
For all laser procedures you will be given drops in your eyes that will change your vision.
For this reason you are advised not to drive home from your appointment or operate any machinery.
