Contact lens clinic

The contact lens clinic is run by our optometrists whi provide specialist contact lens fitting for patients with medical conditions.

We provide specialist contact lens fittings for the following reasons:

  • To manage conditions where the cornea is irregular, such as keratoconus, corneal scarring and following corneal grafts
  • When there are high amounts of myopia (short sightedness) and hypermetropia (long sightedness) or when there is a large difference in the prescription between the eyes.
  • To improve cosmetic appearance of the eyes, this is often necessary following injuries to the eyes that cause disfigurement.
  • To relieve pain and promote healing caused by eye diseases such as corneal ulcers and recurrent corneal erosions.

Initially your eyes will be assessed to check they are suitable for contact lenses and the appropriate type of lens is then chosen and fitted.  The majority of contact lenses required are specially made.

These will be ordered for you and a collection appointment will be made.  You will be shown how to insert and remove the contact lenses and how to care for them. 

You will be reviewed at least once a year to check the fitting and review the health of the eyes after contact lens wear.
