Description:

Photograph of Mr. George Neligan, Surgeon, handing a specially adapted stethoscope to a British Army officer at the London Hospital for use in defusing unexploded bombs, 1940. Signed by Mr. Neligan at request of the depositor when his patient at the hospital.

Description:

Harefield, previously a sanatorium for patients suffering from tuberculosis, became a general hospital in 1948. From an album of 147 photographs taken at Harefield, c. 1940s – 1950s.

Description:

Sir Frederick Treves, Bart. (1853 – 1923) was surgeon to the London Hospital until 1898. He travelled widely and writes here to a fellow traveler after their return from a Mediterranean cruise.

Description:

Set of replica cape badges worn by Penning on her QAIMNSR uniform and replica identity badge. On 24/01/1944 Sister Penning was serving on the hospital ship St. David off the Anzio beachhead when the ship was bombed and sunk. She was one of only two nurses to survive.

From an album of fundi photographs and case summaries of London Hospital patients, 1948 – 1950. The patient, a 50 year old woman, was operated upon by the neurosurgeon Douglas Northfield in June 1949
