Safeguarding children
Barts and The London NHS Trust published its Safeguarding Children Declaration at the end of 2009, outlining the measures in place in the Trust relating to the safeguarding of children. It has been issued in line with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for all NHS trusts, following a review by the CQC of child safeguarding process across the NHS as a result of the death of 'baby P'.
The Trust’s Safeguarding Children Declaration reflects the findings of the CQC assessment and external peer review of safeguarding standards. Barts and The London is committed to achieving and maintaining good compliance with the national safeguarding standards. This will be achieved through continuous monitoring, audit, review and quality improvement, led by skilled and competent named professionals, supported and challenged by the Trust Board and PCT assurance process.
The Trust will continue to work with Tower Hamlets PCT commissioners to provide assurance for scrutiny to enable robust systems and practices to be in place at all times and to ensure all agencies fulfil their roles in safeguarding children.
