Equality and diversity

Equal opportunities for all

Barts and The London is committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting diversity and equality of opportunity in all we do. It is our policy to ensure that no service user, employee or job applicant is treated less favourably on the grounds of their sex, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, social background, marital status, hours worked, responsibilities as a carer, trade union activities, unrelated criminal conviction, or blood borne virus status.

We have several policies to help us achieve this vision. Our policy in relation to employing people with disabilities recognises our social and moral commitment to play a significant role in promoting fair employment opportunities for people with disabilities - we strive to meet and exceed our legal obligations in this regard as well as in relation to all vulnerable groups and communities.

The Trust has developed a single equality scheme which addresses all aspects of equality and diversity. The Equality Act 2010 enables us to extend this activity to all of the categories outlined by the legislation, in reference to: sex, race, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, disability, pregnancy & maternity, religion and belief and marriage and civil partnership. We aim to improve patient experience and provide opportunities for career development in an environment which values fairness and respect for all.
