May 2010Leading cardiovascular research unit opens at Barts, pioneering new treatments for heart disease and other cardiac conditions through innovative translational research trials. The unit is fitted with state-of-theart imaging facilities, enabling earlier detection of heart disease. |

August 2010Ground-breaking ‘Health in Ramadan’ campaign is launched targeting Muslims who plan to fast during Ramadan. The Trust developed a programme to ensure those hoping to fast can do so in a safe way that protects their health while allowing them to meet their religious obligations. |

August 2010Text messaging service is launched to remind outpatients of their forthcoming appointment. The service has cut the number of patients failing to attend outpatient appointments by up to a third, saving thousands of pounds a day. |

December 2010Launch of an international clinical trial of a new procedure to treat persistent high blood pressure. The 40-minute procedure, involving Barts and The London patients, could help patients whose blood pressure is uncontrollable through conventional medication. |

March 2011The Rt Hon Andrew Lansley, CBE MP, Secretary of State for Health, officially opens the state of-the-art Barts Cancer Centre. The nine-storey extension of Britain’s oldest hospital boasts some of the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment facilities anywhere in the world – all in a stunning environment. |
