Raising the bar of clinical and academic excellence
Barts and The London hospitals are world-renowned for our clinical excellence. We see a high concentration of complex cases, which means that we have some of Britain’s leading specialists on our teams. Their expertise benefits all of our patients, including those coming in for more routine procedures.
As well as maintaining one of the best survival rate records in the UK, our clinical quality has been rated as ‘excellent’ by independent health watchdog, the Healthcare Commission, for the second year running.
The Healthcare Commission’s annual health check rates all NHS hospitals against a range of measures, including how long patients wait for treatment, patient safety, cleanliness and how well the organisation is run. For 2006/07, Barts and The London was rated as ‘excellent’ for the quality of our clinical services and ‘good’ for our management of resources.
Barts and The London is the only major teaching hospital trust in the capital to be rated as ‘excellent’ two years running.
But the bar for clinical excellence is rising constantly, and by benchmarking ourselves against other academic health sciences centres, and drawing on their experience and best practice, we will ensure that we measure up to the best, not only in the UK, but in the world.
