Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction causes an inability to get a good enough erection to achieve satisfactory intercourse. This is a very common condition and can be caused by a range of physical and/or psychological factors. Examples of psychological causes include anxiety, stress, bereavement or ‘pressure to perform’. Physical causes can range from diabetes, treatment for high blood pressure, smoking and obesity.

Experts at our specialist clinic will discuss your concerns and lifestyle. We will also check your blood for conditions such as diabetes, and your blood’s level of prostate specific antigen (PSA). If a condition such as diabetes is discovered, we will discuss the implications of this with you and inform your general practitioner. In cases of increased PSA we will refer you to a urologist for further investigation.

The specialist clinic runs every Friday on the surgical outpatients (1st floor) at Barts Hospital, West Smithfield.
