Bringing Excellence to Life

The CCT in Anaesthesia

To obtain your Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) you must complete the programme set out by the Royal College of Anaesthetists in their document ‘The CCT in Anaesthesia’.

This can be found on The Royal College of Anaesthetists website www.rcoa.ac.uk and will provide you with complete details of the curriculum for anaesthesia.  The manual itself is divided into four sections:
  • The CCT in Anaesthesia:  General Principles
  • Competency Based Basic Level (ST Years 1 and 2)
  • Competency Based Intermediate Level (ST Years 3 and 4)
  • Competency Based Higher and Advanced Level (ST Years 5, 6 & 7

The changes which have taken place in the CCT document affect ALL trainees, both Specialist Trainees (STs) and Specialist Registrars (SpRs).

We have attempted to summarise the document into three separate areas:

It is, however, essential that you read the manual in full for more detail.  The manual itself sets out the knowledge, skills and attitudes required at each level.  It also lists the competencies to be ‘signed up’ at each stage of your training, in order to progress.

For the sake of brevity I will only refer to CT1/2, ST3/4 and ST5 and above but the remarks will apply to relevant grades in the older systems.
